Telangana has reported the high levels of domestic violence in India.

The redesigning of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) & Family Court Complex​ in Telangana, India, aimed to make a place of high distress and intimidation, a calmer and friendlier experience. 

 

The court addresses family disputes as well as child abuse cases. The cases go on for months and families have to often spend days at the facility. LOCAL was brought on to create a signage system that would guide, comfort and uplift its users though one of the most trying times of their lives.

SOLUTION

LOCAL deep dove into the region’s traditional storytelling tools and found that the Cheriyal dolls and paintings had been used for centuries to tell moral stories and anecdotes. Their forms and colours appealed both to children and adults and would cheer up the space while not diminishing its seriousness.

THE EFFECT

The exercise has garnered a lot of positive feedback from the Indian public and judicial community and has become an example template for family courts across the country.
